SLCB MOOC 04: Leading innovation at school

The undergraduate level School Leadership Capacity Building Massive Open Online Course (SLCB 04) entitled Leading innovation at school, is a part of 80 hours, 4 Credit, MOOC on Development of School leadership capacities and Management skills.

To accommodate the busy schedule of the participants, we have divided the 60 hours, 4 credit course into 1 credit, 20 hours, 4 different courses. The course offers flexibility with options that you can partially take it.

This free, 4-week course offered by the PVDT College of Education for Women, SNDT Women’s University Mumbai. The course has developed with the support of the UNESCO-UNEVOC OER Grants programme 2020. The course is open for the school principal, Vice Principal, teachers who want to become a school leader and other educational managers.  

Course Objectives

  • To build capacities to transform structures and programmes of the school through continuous innovation,
  • To enable school leaders to develop a culture of innovation through different systems and processes.
  • To build capacities for facilitating transformation through innovative actions

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, learners will be able to…

Module 1

Innovations – Heart of a Learning Organization

1.1. Concept of innovation: meaning, nature and feature of innovation centred learning organization

1.2. Need and importance of innovation centred learning organization

1.3. Role of school leaders in the creation of innovation centred school as a learning organization.

  • Innovations: Significant to school improvement
  • In search of new ideas: Dialogue and brain storming
  • Looking beyond the normative framework 

Module 2

Reimagining the school through innovations

1.1. Nature and characteristics of Culture of Innovation in the School

1.2. Role of school leader: 

  • Nurturing Innovations: Creating spaces for experimentation and research
  • Ensuring adequate resources and academic support
  • Respecting individuality and accommodating diverse perspectives
  • Understanding and addressing resistance to change
  • Rewards and recognition for new ideas and actions
  • Identifying and documenting innovations in school

Module 3

Reimagining the school through innovations         3.1. Innovations at the School Level: Changing the organization of curriculum, an annual calendar, work distribution, budgets, Mid-day Meals, managing finances and raising funds, optimal utilization of existing resources, conducting annual functions, organizing community meetings and staff meetings

3.2. Innovations at Classroom Level: Improvising the teaching-learning process, the classroom organization, time-table preparation, classroom management

Dr. Ganesh Chavan, Asst. Professor, at PVDT College of Education for Women, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai. He is working as Teacher Educator for the last fourteen years. He is passionate about integrating ICT in higher education. By participating and attending various seminars, conferences, workshops, and training programs at the national, international level he tries to learn and integrate various techniques and teaching skills within the teaching-learning process in Teacher education.

Counselor and Teacher trainer
Annapurna Madhuri, a teacher turned counselor and trainer, Annapurna Madhuri has fourteen years of teaching experience and five years of counseling and training experience. Currently, she heads a teacher training institute SMIORE Academy for Teacher Training, which aims to provide pre-service training the rural graduates aspiring to become teachers. She has developed modules on Psychological testing, evaluation, and appraisal under SWAYAM, for an online certificate course for guidance and counseling. She has also conducted several online as well as face-to-face workshops on the Integration of ICT at the school level as well as higher education. She passionately works on Social Emotional Learning with reference to creating emotionally safe and physically secure classrooms, for enhanced effectiveness in the Teaching-Learning Process. Her research interests include setting up career guidance cells in schools to empower schools and the Promotion of Mental Health among Schools through teacher training.
